VoIP (or Voice over IP) it's a technology that allows people to
make phone calls using IP networks, like Internet, or the computer
networks of companies and Universities.
2. What do I need to do
in order to receive or place calls?
You just need to register your telephone (softphone, laptop, PDA,...)
in a VoIP server like StarTel. You can also download a free softphone
called X-Lite.
3. Why do calls between
VoIP phones are free?
Because VoIP traffic is handled like data traffic, and data traffic
is paid when you contract your Internet connection (ADSL, etc..).
4. Does VoIP traffic
uses a lot of bandwidth?
No, a VoIP call uses less then 30 Kb/s. It's even possible to make
VoIP calls with Internet dialup connections.
5. Where can I call with
my StarTel account?
To all free VoIP networks around the world, all numbers registered
in ENUM and to the land lines of more then 40 countries.
6. Can I call the conventional fixed
phones?
StarTel allows the clients to call land lines for free with a 1
minute limit.
7. What's the
rates for calling the normal phones?

easily notice that these are the lowest prices you can get.
8.
Can I receive calls from the normal phones?
Yes, you just need to subscribe a Number in the "Number"
menu. This number will be connected to your VoIP address (you can
freely register a VoIP address in "My Account" -> "Create
Account"). When someone calls to your number, you can answer
in your computer, PDA or VoIP Phone, everywhere in the world.
