1. What's ENUM?
ENUM is the bridge between the switched telephony network and the Internet. This protocol uses the Internet DNS system to translate E.164 (i.e. ordinary) telephone numbers into IP addressing schemes (like SIP, H323 or Email).

2. How can people save money with ENUM?
When you register your telephone number in ENUM, you allow your clients and friends to contact you for free. This happens because the calls that used to go to your phone, routed by a telecom operator, will be routed through the Internet for free.

3. How do I register in ENUM? Do I have to pay?
In some ENUM trees you have to pay, but there are some free trees.
The register process is easy, you just need to:
1 - Create an account in StarTel (you can do it in "My Account" menu)
2 - Go to www.e164.org and register your phone number associated with the StarTel SIP account (ex: +351261333333 -> yourname@startel.pt).

4. Why don't we need to pay to have a SIP account or an ENUM record?
A SIP account is like an email address. Have you ever paid to have an email address?
Some ENUM records are free, and some are not. The E164.org registries are free

5. How do I know if a number is registered in ENUM, allowing me to call this number for free?
Put the number you would like to call for free in http://enumquery.com and check the result.
